The role of UrbanLab Galway is to develop a variety of platforms to facilitate the broadest possible public engagement. Our aim is to ensure that all voices contribute to the future development of places. We make use of traditional methods and more innovative digital ones. These methods serve the primary goal of UrbanLab: to enable the dreaming and to inspire the imagination of the greatest number of people to collectively co-create the future.

UrbanLab Galway operates at the intersection of academic research and creative urban design, blending scholarly inquiry with innovative practical applications. This synergy enables the exploration of new ideas and solutions for urban development challenges. Academic research within the lab is open and varied, from a focus on analysing urban trends, environmental impacts, and social dynamics, to food systems and traffic Managment,  providing a strong empirical foundation for our projects. Simultaneously, the creative side of the lab leverages this research to design and test experimental urban interventions that aim to enhance sustainability, livability, and inclusivity in the context of Galway and other similarly sized urban settlements. By aligning theoretical insights with creative execution, UrbanLab Galway endeavours to forge transformative urban solutions that are both informed by rigorous study and adapted to real-world complexities and needs.
